Liberals v. ACLU

Culture Wars post, with comments, discussing ACLU position in a religious valedictorian speech case.

I find the usually liberal/libertarian readership's comments here interesting. A surprising amount of "religion makes me uncomfortable, so I support the school's censoring the student."

If the expectation was set between the school and the student and she deviated from her anticipated remarks, then the microphone going dead should be no surprise. That being said, there is a difference between an acknowledging brief remark of divine thanks and a captive audience in a five minute prayer or a proselytizing altar call.
